The Challenge

Thomas Dudley has been engineering bespoke iron castings and bathroom products since 1920, and during that time has built a strong reputation for excellence in manufacturing. After almost 100 years in business, they decided that they needed a website that would reflect their long-standing values of quality, reliability and innovation. We were invited to pitch for the contract to transform their online presence, and impressed the team at Thomas Dudley with our unique approach to the website design and build process.

Confident that our expertise in website design would deliver them a website that would reflect their expertise in engineering, Thomas Dudley asked us to start work on their new, bespoke website. We might not know the exact difference between a Turbo 88 syphon and a Hydroflo inlet valve (possibly related, definitely manufactured by Thomas Dudley) but we do know the best platforms, content management systems and search engine optimisation techniques going.

The Solution


Our research into the target audience revealed that although fairly broad, they fell into distinct groups; architects and specifiers, merchants and retailers, plumbers and fitters and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). The website needed to reinforce the already established reputation for excellence for all of these groups, but also bring further value to each and every individual user. For example, plumbing merchants and fitters are familiar with the quality of products, but want access to technical information and fitting instructions. Architects and specifiers are looking for a partner who can deliver on water saving targets, providing detailed specifications, but do not automatically realise that Thomas Dudley can provide this support. OEMs require input and advice through the design and production process, and might not be aware of the engineering capabilities of Thomas Dudley’s new high-end equipment.

We designed a series of targeted messages that would provide the full picture of a family-owned UK manufacturer, using state-of-the-art technology to produce end-to-end casting solutions, quality bathroom products and innovative water-saving products. The structure of the website, however, allows each distinct group of users to find the information that is relevant to them in a few clicks, taking fitters, specifiers and OEMs on different paths through the website. Each division has its own section, with content arranged to suit the different user groups.


Visually, the website has a clean and modern design, with images and colour treatments helping to distinguish the different areas. Easy-to-use product filters and website navigation guide users to the information they require. Home-page banners deliver the targeted messages and the website delivers the message that Thomas Dudley is a quality manufacturer that understands its customers.

Informative video clips, social media streaming and the latest search engine optimisation tools have been integrated. The website is compatible with mobile and static platforms, and the mobile-responsive design provides quick access to technical data for fitters out on site. Registered users have access to further content including CAD drawings and other design tools.


The website is built around a content management system that allows Thomas Dudley to keep the site fresh by adding content as and when required. New products and manufacturing capabilities can be added as soon as they occur, meaning that website users are always looking at the most up-to-date technology.

The Results

After impressing the Thomas Dudley team with our technical expertise, we are currently working on the next website project with them. Sadly, we haven’t been asked to contribute to the designs for any of their new Battenfield injection moulding machines, but we know where our design strengths lie; we’ll stick to developing cutting-edge websites and award-winning branding and design for global clients, and leave the engineering to the experts.
