Emergency tyre service app developed for Michelin
Michelin ONCall is an emergency breakdown service for commercial vehicle owners and operators of trucks, coaches and buses. The service started as a pilot in the UK and North America and is now being extended to a further 34 countries. Michelin ONCall enables customers to access roadside assistance 24/7/365, with call-outs routed to the closest Michelin centres with the correct tyre in stock.
We have developed a mobile app for Michelin ONCall, believed to be the first of its kind to use geo-technology, to link UK and Ireland based truck, bus and coach drivers with an emergency tyre replacement service throughout Europe. App users can access the service either using their ONCall membership details or by using a credit card when requesting roadside assistance on a pay-as-you-go basis.
The app is available on both iOS and Android platforms and can be accessed via GPRS, 3G, 4G or a Wi-Fi connection to provide the ONCall service centre with a location with pinpoint accuracy. In the event of a need for assistance the driver of the vehicle can make a call, through the app, to the UK service centre and an SMS or an email, depending on how the app is accessed, will be sent to the delivery centre. The location (of the user) is transmitted to approved dealers with the correct stock who can be called out quickly to their exact location.
Andrew Evans, Michelin’s Emergency Roadside Manager, says: “Traditional breakdown services rely upon a driver relaying their location to a call centre, which then passes the job to a tyre dealer. With the app now pinpointing the location for us, we can get help to exactly where it’s needed fast.”
As well as assisting ONCall customers with their breakdowns expediently the data generated by the app and the integration to the call centre affords Michelin valuable business intelligence and insight.
Mark Lesniak, Director, Lesniak Swann said: “By using Appcelerator’s Titanium product we can take advantage of the native features within a smartphone to enhance both the user’s experience and the data generated for Michelin ONCall.”
